7 Recent Additions and Updates to Experience in Myrtle Beach

Between new restaurants and attractions opening their doors to old favorites gaining new storylines and updates, there’s always something new and exciting to do in Myrtle Beach. During your Ocean Forest Colony vacation, try out some of these hot spots that are new or recently updated in the area.

Lulu’s

4954 Highway 17 S., North Myrtle Beach

Jimmy isn’t the only Buffett who knows how to mix up a great margarita. In early June 2018, Lucy Buffett, Jimmy’s sister, opened the third location of her family-friendly restaurant and bar (the other two are in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and Destin, Florida) at Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach. The large open-air restaurant is beside the Intracoastal Waterway and has a large sandy area to the side where kids can play with sand toys or dabble in a fountain with toy boats. The menu is casual and delicious, with choices like Blackened Shrimp Nachos, Crab Melt and a burger topped with pimento cheese and a fried green tomato. Live music acts perform regularly during the week from 6-10 p.m.

Medieval Times

2904 Fantasy Way, Myrtle Beach

Medieval Times – the dinner show in a castle set in Medieval Spain – isn’t new to Myrtle Beach, but in a recent turn of events, instead of a King calling the shots, the castle has a Queen! That’s right, the beautiful Queen Dona Maria Isabella is in charge, and she doesn’t take any dissing from knights who push back against a female leader. The performing horses, the jousting and other knightly games and the dinner you eat with your hands (no cutlery in 13th century Spain) are all better than ever. And the falconer! Where else can you munch on roast chicken while a falcon flies over your head?

810 Billiards & Bowling

1220 Moser Dr., Myrtle Beach; 1105 US-17 North Myrtle Beach

Fans of the fabulously fun and delicious (yes, a bowling alley and pool hall with great food) 710 Billiards and Bowling in North Myrtle Beach can now head to The Market Common in Myrtle Beach for 810 Billiards and Bowling. It opened recently in the former Piggly Wiggly site, and in addition to bowling and billiards, it has bocce ball, ping-pong, cornhole, shuffleboard, foosball, skee ball, basketball, darts, air hockey and board games (giant Jenga anyone?). The food is casual – burgers, brick oven pizzas, loaded fries, wings, quesadillas – but definitely a few steps up from typical bowling alley fare in taste and presentation. There’s also live music on Friday nights and happy hour from 4-7 p.m. Mondays-Fridays.

Brixx Wood Fired Pizza

8006 N. Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach

While thin-crust pizzas (from pepperoni with mushrooms to Korean Pepper Steak) are the main attraction, Brixx also serves starters (spinach/artichoke dip, hummus trio), salads (Thai Chicken, Caesar with Shrimp), sandwiches (Meatball Sub, Italian Beef), pasta (Roasted Chicken Alfredo, Pomodoro), and desserts (Salted Caramel Crunch Cookie Pie, Chocolate Truffle Torte). Brixx also has a kids’ menu, a full bar, and vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options.

Johnny D’s Waffles and Benedicts

5063 3900 Highway 17 S., North Myrtle Beach

Their great food and friendly service made the original Johnny D’s Waffles and Bakery in Myrtle Beach a favorite breakfast and lunch spot among locals, and now their fans in North Myrtle Beach don’t have to drive so far to get their fixes of Cinnamon Roll Waffles and Red Velvet Waffles (the chef is an actual real-deal pastry chef), and incredible Benedicts with crab cakes, salmon, chipotle bacon and other toppings. But wait, there’s more: Johnny D’s serves omelets, biscuits with gravy, skillets, fruit platters, pancakes such as banana pecan, French toast made with house-baked challah bread and dipped in vanilla bean custard, and incredible sandwiches and salads, from a build-your-own grilled cheese or a Brisket Burger to Strawberry Almond Salad. Bonus: You can also get a specialty coffee, Mimosa or Bloody Mary!

Tin Roof

1410 N. Ocean Blvd., Myrtle Beach

Tin Roof has what partying people are looking for. Rooftop oceanfront bar? Check. Loads of live music seven days and nights a week? Double-check. Add plenty of craft draft beers, cocktails and delicious food like biscuit sliders filled with smoked brisket, bacon, peach jam, and Cheddar cheese, and you’ve got a fun night on the boulevard.

Topgolf

630 Grissom Parkway Trail, Myrtle Beach

An exciting new business arrived in Myrtle Beach in 2019. Topgolf says it’s all about games, music, food, and fun, and it broke ground on a new link in its chain in Myrtle Beach in spring 2018. The three-level venue features 72 climate-controlled hitting bays that utilize microchipped ball technology, almost 2,000 square feet of private event space, a restaurant, bar, music, and games like foosball.

During your visit to Ocean Forest Colony in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, be sure to check out these relative newcomers and updated attractions. From practicing your golf swing to dining on a beachfront rooftop, there’s plenty to do and see along the Grand Strand.
